    networking

I have two dell 500 mgh pentium 3 PC's; both have win 2000 pro installed. One is connected to DSL line via sprints 645 modem which is bridged; this modem goes to a linksys befsr41 router dsl modem. I did have windows 98se installed and upgraded to before mentioned Operating system. Now the two will not communicate; Cannot use printer with remote PC. Please take me step by step to get these two PC's to work together on network. Thanks

Ok, so we have two pc's that connect via a router and a broadband connection that is distributed via a router.

    Questions:
    1. Do both machines have logons with passwords?
    2. Do both machines have a user account with the logon and password from the other machine as well?
    3. Do you have firewalling capabilities in the router?
    4. Do you have firewalling capabilities on the computers?
    5. Do you have shared folders?
    6. Can you ping one computer from the other? - both ways?
    7. Do they both "see" the internet?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
