ca810 motherboard & Bios driver update needed

Hi my kids have a 500mhz intel celeron with a ca810 motherboard. Although im pretty computer savvy i got a friend to fdisk as i wasnt sure about partitioning.I normally just do a straight format....When the fdisk was done it seems all the MBA (master boot records) were wiped as was the partitions and they were freshy partitioned. Now when the computer starts i have the old bios showing. I have to hit f2 instead of delete to enter bios i am also now not getting all the computer information on startup and also when i shutdown i dont get the message it is now safe to turn off your computer. Althought it still shuts off and starts fine. I have been to intel and downloaded a bios update but it still hasnt given me the newer version of the bios the file from intel was a caa12bi but id like a later one if anyone can help id really apreciate it.....I hope the folowing is enough information..........Its running ME but i can reformat to win98se if that will help.....Its running fine but id still like it to have all start up info and shutdown message....Thanks in advance......

Fdisk has no effect on the bios. Who is the manufacturer of your computer? It is possible that a hidden service partition was wiped when you fdisked. The bios file you obtained from intel is the latest available. The 810 hasn't been made for quite a while and intel has stopped supporting it.

You are not supposed to get the message that it is ok to turn off your computer. The fact that it is gone is a good thing. The start up messages are controlled by a setting in the bios - you should be able to turn them on if you want to see them.

Hi thanks for the reply. The computer is an ASI labelled computer. We purchased it through our Medicare system as they were upgrading. When i enter the bios it is an older style bios and it doesnt have anywhere you can tell it to display computer info at startup the only option i have is to display the intel logo... As i had all this info there prior to the fdisk and now all has gone back to an older style it is most annoying. As for the shutdown message i have a computer that is just on two years old and it displays the it is now safe to turn off your computer message even though it then turns itself off.........I hope someone out there can help.......Thanks

You may want to check the settings in the bios. The 500 mhz. celeron you have is running at 433.

It is impossible for the fdisk to have changed the bios. It is possible you deleted some kind of software installed by the manufacturer on a hidden partition, but it is generally not possible to replace this. Also, intel implemented a "fast boot" in their bios in order to speed up the system start. When this is in use, you will not see the post info at boot unless there is an error. There may be a bios setting to disable this.

Other than the lack of post info at start up, is there anything actually wrong with this computer? You haven't described any issues with windows.

No there is nothing wrong with the computer but it is just annoying me ( im a bit of a perfectionist) that all the info that used to be there is now gone. Now each time it starts i have to wait for it to check the ram and once it reaches 128mb it continues to load. I can press the space bar and it by passes this but the kids are finding it annoying and i too just wish i had just done a formatt and not let my friend do the fdisk and repartition it. All i wanted was to put ME on instead of WIN 98se.......Oh well never mind at least my computer is ok the kids will just have to live with it. Thanks everyone and have a great day.........Lilly

Since the BIOS was updated I am assuming that the cmos was cleared to defaults. Disable the logo so all the stuff that used to appear will appear once again, it may be identified as quiet boot as well.. To bypass the multiple ram count enable the fast boot option in the BIOS.
There isn't many options on the CA810 to improve boot speed or performance for that matter other than perhaps a delay for hard drive detection which you may or may not need. My CA810 was 10 seconds delay for hard drive detection by default which seemed like an eternity so I knocked it down to the 5 second delay which was a little more tolerable and didn't affect the hard drive detection scheme. You can also disable floppy seek unless you need it for some reason or another.

Thanks for the reply... I have disabled the logo but all the pci stuff is still not showing, just bios id and motherboard serial number. I have enabled fast boot but the multiple ram count is still going. Where in the bios can i reset the mhz to 500mhz rather that the 433mhz that is registering. In my computer i can change the settings but i can not find the advanced settings in this bios on the kids computer..... 433 MHz (6.5 x 67)The multiplier is locked on Intel CPU's so your CPU speed is correct at the posted settings.
As far as the Ram count goes if you have already enabled fast boot than there isn't much you can do other than go back into the bios and verify that your changes were saved. Depending on the version of CA810 you have there should/might be some jumpers on the mainboard for clearing CMOS or simply pull the battery for a few minutes with the system unplugged and start from scratch with a cleared out BIOS.

No your not "Confus-ed" Thats one problem I'm having with this @#$% thing. Since it was repartitioned and completly wiped and reloaded the newer bios setting are nolonger there. It used to have all the computer specs on start-up but all gone now. Also to enter bios i used to have to press the delete button now i have to press F2 key once in bios all the advanced settings are no longer accessiable. Im now about to buy a bios upgrade from esupport.com
