sounds like you may be haveing a h/drive failure there.
i would try one of three things ,
1: if it is under warrenty ,,,return it
2: borrow/beg/steal a spare drive , and try again.
2: check mfg of h/drive , and try to locate diagnostic tools (the h/drive not the machine) ,,,,and see what it says.

you cant download DOS from anywhere. That would be copying but
Ypu dont need DOS for windows 2000.
It does sound like you have some hardware problems specifically harddrive.
Have you booted to the restore cd from Dell?
And used it to repartition the drive?

If you deleted everything on your machine, you also deleted the OS. The OS in this case is Windows 2000. You will need to look in your manual and find the instructions on how to do a full restore for the laptop.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

You must check the userguide for how to use the dell restore cds.
I think you have to put the cd in, hold down the ctrl key and start the machine.... depends on the model.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Have you checked that the BIOS is booting from the CD and NOT the HDD?
Sounds like it's trying to boot from the hard drive without accessing the CD first.

By default I think you can press F-12 (or F-10) to access the boot menu and select your CD-ROM drive. IF you do not nees these option on the first boot screen press F-2 to enter the setup (BIOS) and select Boot Sequence and change it to CD-ROM
The you will be able to resintall Windows 2000. If you are not able to install Windows or Windows is not able to find your hard drive then you have a hardware problem.

Hello friends
Her its something NEW happened .Same haw is success to install Windows Me.
I have done this.
I have insert start diskette in, and I success to format C (same haw) and I have install Windows Me.
When the pc ask me what I wont to named I have write H drive
Than I have update whole service pack from Microsoft for Windows Me.
Now I can see that I have only 892 MB left in drive h (C Normally I shall have about 8 GB Free spaces, because my pc have about 10 GB SPACE, so its something wrong there.
Next step
I have just insert cd with Windows 2000 pro (To upgrade) but pc says THIS FILE ARE NOT FOUND
C:\WINDOWS\\UPGDLLS\w95UPG.DLL\W98XUPG\W95UPG.DLL
I thing that is something wrong with Fat 32 or Ntftsbecause when I have upgrade before from Win Me-to Win 2000 pro-than I have change to NTFTS-OR SAMETHING LIKE THIS.
Now my question to you is.
Shall I try to install from cd Windows 2000 pro---CLEAN INSTALATIONTHAT MEAN I CAN INSTALL Win 2000 proBut I cannot upgrade.
Sorry my bad English.
I hope you understand Olek

Olek what is the model number of your laptop?
Olek, please answer these questions with yes or no.
1. Do you have the restore disk for this laptop?
2. Do you have the manual for this laptop?
