Twin XPs
Hello all i have just purchased and fitted a seagate sata 120gb HD and formatted it from within XPpro drive is now allocated a letter and is up and running as a storage device. The problem i have is i would like to run another XP installation on my new drive as i would like to have my old system still running until i get everything reinstalled on my new operating system also it would be nice to have a backup for safety reasons. When i use my XP pro disc it boots up but when gets to stage to pick where to install will only recognise my old c: drive. I have tried unplugging old drive but then it doesnt find a drive at all. Will XP only install on a drive with path c: if so is there anyway of getting round this prob. Any help muchly appreciated youve not let me down yet.
Thanks James Mckie

Hi James
This is because when you first boot to the XP cd
On the very first screen at the bottom it gives you the option to hit F6 to add other storage drivers
At that point you hit F6 and a few screens later it will ask for the sata drivers disk and then it will find the sata drive correctly
If you have them on cd I wouldl advise putting them on a floppy its a lot easier
