    Modem driver causing BSOD

    Hi All,

Have a computer in with WinXP-H. Problem is with the modem driver. Customer stated that he had the generic native WinXP driver (WHQL) installed and all worked fine. In an effort to get v92 performance from the modem, he installed the WinXP drivers that came with the modem. (non-WHQL)
He saw no performance gain with this switch, so he tried to re-install the generic driver. He said the after he did that, when ever he tried to access the modem it would say it was busy. So he un-installed the modem. Now when Windows starts, the new hardware wizard finds the modem and tries to install the generic Windows driver, in the process of installing the driver....BSOD pops up for 1/2 a second and then re-boots. If you let it go....it will continue in this loop indefinitely. If you remove the modem on re-boot, Windows reports a serious error referencing a driver error. Any ideas on how to get out of this loop to at least restore the last known working driver? Modem is a Best Data 56FW-92 56K V.92 PCI.

    Thank-you in advance!

    Problem solved

    Hi All,

I used system restore to "roll back" the changes. It's fixed........still wonder about the cause of the loop????????
