    Help with sound

I have a compaq presario, model: 5wv275. I installed windows 98 on it but now have no sound at all. The volume icon is not on the task bar. I have tried to put a CD in it to see if that would make sound but it doesn't. I don't know how to get the sound up and running again.

    Welcome to Windrivers Chevy!

the drivers are here Once you have downloaded the drivers to a directory you can easily find, double click the downloaded file. Compaqs "softpaqs" are self executing and self installing - just follow the wizard.

    Help with sound

Tried downloading the drivers and it still has no sound. In the "Multimedia Properties" it says that no Audio devices are installed. How do I reinstall these?

Did you double click the file once you downloaded it so it could install the drivers?

This indicates either the registry is damaged in some way, that internet explorer is not updated or that you did not save the file to your hard drive first, you selected run or open instead of save when you downloaded it.

Have you been to windows updates to get your files updated correctly?

Yes, and transport it to the computer in question with a floppy, usb stick or cd.

Did you understand what I meant about opening it instead of saving?

no, copy it to the pc, not open it from the cdrom

The softpaq is designed to be run from the c:\ drive.

You take the cd out of the drive on the computer you burned the cd on. You walk across to the other computer. You put the cd in. You double click my computer, you right click on the cd drive, you select explore. You find the file on the cd rom, you left click it so it turns blue. From the menus at the top, select edit and then you select copy.

Double click my computer, double click on the c: drive
From the menu at the top, click edit, then paste from the drop down menu. The file will be copied over.

Now you can double click the file on the c:\ and it should now run.
