Ext HD - USB / XP only sees on bootup
Hi,
I have an external hard drive which connects to my PC via a USB cable. The drive is in a tiger direct purchasedhard drive case which is externally powered. The originial drivers that came with the drive were for win98.
When the drive is on and XP boots up the drive works great. But when the drive is powered up after XP is already running it is not seen. To use the drive without rebooting I have to uninstall the "USB mass storage drive". Then scan for hardware changes. After a few second it recognizes the drive and it works fine from there.
I've deleted the driver, reinstalled the drivers, and searched for other drivers. But so far no luck.
The USB ports work because I use them for my camera and my MP3 players. Which I just plug in and they are recognized.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks in advance.
Tom.

Welcome to windrivers tapper
Is the usb onboard or a card?
Have you loaded your motherboard drivers?
Have you loaded sp1 for xp?

The USB is onboard.
And all drivers were installed including SP1.

OK, I would like to confirm specifically that you installed the motherboard drivers. What motherboard do you have, and which drivers did you install?
