I've run into a weird situation-
3 user accounts on XP hjome system, 2 cannot get any internet access, one can.
Any new account created cannot get access.
only diference is that the account that can get access is password protected.
no viruses, all spyware is removed.
ANy ideas?

Is it possible that winsock2 is corrupted?
Any easy way to check is if you get an IP assigned but cant pull down web sites.

I have a suggestion but Im not sure if its the right one but this sounds like a technical question for your service provider of your internet company you use. Im sure they will be able to help you figure this problem 0ut.

Are you using broadband or dialup?

My guess is that the account that created the account is the one that can connect right? Try creating another account using the same info. Somewhere in the wizard it will/should ask you if you want to allow all users or only you. Select all users and you should be good.

More info....
The problem exists on my cable, but also they were using dialup and experienced the same issues.
Yes, it gets an IP, and cannot pull up web pages.
the 2 accounts that cannot connect are accounts that were allready on system.
The account that can connect was allready on system.
A new account created with any user (i tried all 3) has the same results- no connection.
**** I was a little vauge- the 'account' i am refering to is a windows xp user account- not a dialup account, etc. ***
(all users are administrator accts)
This is definately not an ISP issue, as this works on one of the accounts, but not the other 2, or any new ones.
I thought if the winsock problem-- can that be an issue for some accouts, and not others?

winsock typically affects all accounts.

Does your new (test) account have a password?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Fixed!!!
It's fixed!
As it turns out, it was a winsock 2 problem. I ran a winsock 2 fixer, and all is well. Customer is QUITE happy, as i was going to back up his data, but had TONS of 'borrowed' software he was going to lose. THanks for the winsock tip...
Any ideas on how the winsock thing could ONLY effect some accounts?
