Loss of internet connection after idle time

Have a problem with my AMD XP 1700+ machine running win 98SE. Seems if it sits idle for any length of time and you try to get an internet connection - it will not connect. You are forced to reboot to get the connection to come active again. I am on a cable modem - always on. Not sure if this is a setting that needs adjusting or what.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply.

No I have not - wasn't sure which program to use. I will search for spybot and give it a try.

    Thanks

I don't remember off hand, but does Win98 allow for power management on the NIC itself?

    Good point, Phaeton.
Also, I wonder if your ISP might be cutting idle connections after awhile? Small ISPs have tended to do this to increase bandwidth. AOL used to do that years ago; I think Juno still does, to name a couple.

recently I installed win98 on few >2Ghz PCs and come to conclusion that this OS is not fully compatible with new hardware, seems there will be no way to enjoy rocket like speed of old winXX on P4 > processors..
