good remote application free and easy to configure and use is http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
Ultr@ VNC file transfer and remote desktop administration!!
ive tried it a few times and im about to start clients out with it
and actually if anyone has any cons to this application please post!!

couple that with PC Anywhere, or VNC or whatever.
That's exactly what I use with PCAnywhere. I go from work to home, home to work etc and it works fantastic!!

i know i have seen this before where you can use dyndns.org to keep your ip up to date but im still not sure how it works.. i currently have no domain but i would like to know how to set this up so i can locate my home pcs ip address.. ill probably end up adding a server box if i cant figure out another way but for now i would like to avoid that!!

Go check out the link to no-ip.com in craigmodius's post. I think they explain the what's and the how's pretty good on the site. All's you have to do is have thier client running on a system on your network and that's it. Pretty straight forward
