dell inspiron 3000 does not detect Liteon CD RW/DVD Combo Drive
The following is my system specification.
1997 Dell Inspiron 3000
Pentium MMX
144 MB Ram
4GB HDD
It has a Removable CD Drive and comes with an externally attached floppy drive.
Operating System: Windows 2000, Service Pack 4.
I purchased Liteon SlimType Combo DVD/CD RW with the following specification.
24X/12X/24X CD-RW and 8X DVD-ROM LSC-24081MX External Slim Combo Drive - USB 2.0 / 1.1
Please note that the laptop does not have a USB port.
I have to use a USB to PS2 Adaptor to connect a USB Device.
However that does not seem to be a problem as I had no issue connecting and using a Microsoft USB Mouse.
The Problem
------------
I connected the Combo DVD/CD RW to the laptop and started my system.
However Windows 2000 fails to detect it.
No extra drive appears in my computer.
I installed the Nero ver 5.0 CD Burning software but it fails to detect the device. The only device it detects in its display panel is the default Image Recorder.
I found out that this device requires USB Mass Storage Device Driver which is bundled with Win2k
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/liteon-24081/
However as per this article....
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;265002
Windows 2000 and Windows 98 do not support multiple logical unit number (LUN) universal serial bus (USB) storage devices
Could this be the problem ?
feedback appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to Windrivers palathuruthil
I am sorry but there is no way that will work. A usb mouse WILL function as a ps2 device as it is made that way. A CD writer will not.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

The convertor you are using converts the USB mouse to work via ps2, it's not converting the ps2 on your laptop to USB. So other than getting a different laptop ur kinda screwed.
