Dvd burner will not reconize blank DVD-Rs
Hey..
I have a tosiba satilite 5200 laptop with a DVD-R/RW drive and i boght some memorex dvd-R's to burn some stuff. I got them home and i out one in my dvd drive will not reconize them it says their is no disc in the drive. So i took them back and tried some sonys and i had the same problem. Then i tried some fuji film because that is the media i use to use and it use to work fine, and again same problem. I have one old fujifilm dvd from about a year ago and it reads it fine?? The model of my dvd burner is Toshiba SD-R6012. I am just wondering if its firmware drive or a software driver or if its just the media? I looked for a new driver on Toshibas web site but they said the standard windows driver is correct. I am running XP Pro. Before i was running xp-Home and didnt seem to have any real problems with it. any help will be greatly appreciated.
THank you

OK, dvd burners are finicky things.
Do you have the specs, is it definitely a -R burner?
What speed is it rated at?
What speed was the media rated at?
Will it play a shop bought dvd movie?
Can you read dvd's you previously burned on this drive?
When you looked through toshiba, did you see any bios updates or firmware updates?

Have you tried this http://sdd.toshiba.com/cda/main.aspx...00659c0000154c
It shows to use a DVD-R / RW disc format

hey my DVD burner will burn CDs fine and will read dvds that have been writen to fine.
It is a DVD-R/RW
1X speed
The medial is says up to 4x speed... ive tried about 5 differnt medias all with no success. Except for an older fujifilm dvd-r disc wich works mine it reads it all fine and A Memorex DVD-RW will be reconized but the memorex DVD-R's will not.
ill try the firmware but my current version is 1300 which they have no up grade for, or i havent been able to locate one.
Thanx

Sounds like a media problem then... are they 4x or 1 - 4 x?
