    Steps onto a soap box

    Rant

I'm a tech support person, not God.

When trying to solve a problem, one needs to be at the computer. I can't reach across the digital network we call the World Wide Web and affect a computer that you are not at. Yes, that includs getting your e-mail acrhive on your home computer from your workplace

I can't read your mind and know what a "A little blue Doo-dad" looks like.

"Right" and "write" are two seperate words used in very clear and different circumstances... I don't need you with a marker anywhere near your monitor or mouse.

"w" is one letter, not 2

Yes my friend, a computer needs to be turned on to solve a problem.. please be prepared.

Just cause you are stupid and opened a virus does not mean that we sent you that virus nor should we cover the total cleanup cost that affected you. No, we can't call every one of our 1/2 million customers personaly to tell them that they might get an e-mailed virus... we sent out 1.4 million e-mails to do the same thing. Again, it's not our fault you thought it was a virus and deleted it.

If your monitor will not turn on.. you have more serious issues then just the internet. Get those fixed first.

Be nice to me. If used incorrectly my tools can keep you offline for a very long time.

Glad I'm not the only one feeling that today.

I hate it when someone calls me into their office to "fix" their computer. They'll usually have some dumb problem like "I can't print" or "Can you make my computer run faster?". So it's like, "No problem. I'll take a look and see what I can do." It never fails,.. less than a minute after I've sat down at their workstation to see what the deal is, and my fingers haven't even hit the keyboard yet, they are standing over my shoulder saying, "Oh! Did you break my computer already?? HAHAHA". Like, "WTF?" YOU are the one who called ME in here to "fix" your computer? How am I the one who "broke" your computer? Normally I'm pretty mellow,.. but thats the one stupid-a$$ joke that really gets under my skin. God, I hate that.

Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

    Oh crap!

    I thought it was a goof-off list.

It never occured to me that it may have actually been based on real life.

    Techs don't deserve this.

Who here has heard that common line from people as you work on a computer? "Uh oh. What did you break now?" It's like they think that this is original and they are Sam Kinison reincarnate or something.
