sony versus LG. reading dvd's prb

    Hi everyone!
    my first thread here..
I finally bought my first dvd player..a sony dru-530A.
my prb: i rented a dvd from a movie store and it couldn't play.
I then returned it. They played it and it worked fine on conventional dvd player (not dvd player in pc)
Then i got a second brand new one dvd player called LG GSA 4081B to see if that same movie will play. Bingo it played very well.
    What's going on?
the LG is not mine...i only borrowed it to test it.
I really need to know what i can do to fix the prb...
my sony read faster dvd's than LG..could be that the prb?
    thx for answering,

    Welcome to Windrivers 3Dzigner

Which DVD playback software did you install for the Sony, did you install something else or run an update when you installed the LG?

We also need to know your windows version and where you are with windows updates.

I actually installed my dvd player with its original drivers. the one i got from sony. It came with powerdvd.
same thing with LG player. I installed its own drivers with powerdvd
The only thing i did recently was to install latest firmware for my sony dvd player but still...no success playing that same dvd movie.
    I have XP. no updates...
my XP is a cracked version...and i can't update with this version because of the key..
