Well formatting of course removes all drivers totally
So we need to know what sound card you have and whether it is onboard or a pci card.
Then drivers can likely be found to correct this problem
    Unfortunately this info doesnt help

Did you plug in the speakers to the green jack on the pc and is the speaker power cord connected and switched on? Are the speakers switched on?

You need to use the Soundblaster 128 drivers instead. XP detects and installs wrong drivers for the 5880 chip.
    Download the drivers from Creative:

There might be another set of drivers suitable for your chipset on the Creative website. The best thing is to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and download from there. Make sure you uninstall your current drivers before attempting to install new ones.

Yes, get the motherboard make and model, the drivers will be on the motherboard manufacturer's website.

Welcome to Windrivers astroschamps04. Is this a pci card or integrated into the mother board? Can you identify a model number (a four digit number preceded by CT or ES) on the sound card or chipset? Take a look here for help on identifying your product. What OS are you running?
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.
