    http:///4.3.6

Got a call from my MOM and all of a sudden when she tries to log on to the net her normal startpage is gone. What DOES come up is http:///4.3.6 in the address bar and "page cannot be found" on the page. You can type in other sites in the address bar and they work fine. If you change her start page after a few min. it changes back to http:///4.3.6. I ran hijackthis and it found 7 entries with that in it and removed them but they keep coming back.
    Any Suggestions?

    thanks

Have you changed her home page settings under Tools->Internet Options?

First, clear the temp internet files and history and then reset the homepage and then run ad-aware www.lavasoftusa.com or spybot search and destroy

YES, I tried to change the startpage. It changed back.

I removed temp internet files, deleted history, ran Adaware, and Highjack This. Same results. I do not want to format this PC. Please...any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have tried TWELVE TIMES to copy and past the text from the log her and each and every time I paste it her and hit, "submit reply" the browser window closes. I tried to include it as an attachment and it will not let me do that either. WHAT is going on???????

Try "Preview Reply" first and tell us what you see in the preview.

Preview reply does the same thing.

Is there a limit on how much text that can be posted? Maybe I need to break it up into 3 or 4 messages???

Yes there is a limit, but you would get an error message stating that fact. How exactly are you trying to copy and paste?

I open the log file, hightlight the text, right-click choose copy, go to the very section that I am typing in now and right-click and choose paste.

The text shows up just fine, but when I hit submit reply OR preview reply the window closes and my reply is lost.

No error message? What browser are you using? I'm stumped. Perhaps you can PM a mod and report this issue...unless others here have any ideas.

I came across something simalar on a clients machine. It turned out to be the wallpaper! Some nasty program had enbeded objects into the wallpaper. All of the usual fixes didn't work untill I changed the wallpaper. I had a look at the file afterwards it was 4 Mb instead of the 160Kb it should have been...

    Unhappy

Still no luck here...Spybot removed it for about 24 hours and it came back. I looked in the registry and did not find anything obvious. I changed the wall paper as suggested and same thing...MAN...I really dont have time to format this computer and start all over...got too many other things going on.

Any one else know of anything? Google comes up with NOTHING when I search for it....

I don't see any mention of an AV scan, have you done one? What AV software is on the machine?
