DSL and cable side by side?

So I'm home today and I get this call from Cablevision (our cable TV provider, who also offers cable internet). They want to send me a cable modem and all other hardware and software for a free trial, so I can experience their service "side by side" with my existing service. Now I've got DSL, so I start trying to explain to the sales rep that I can't connect a cable modem side by side unless I install another network card. The explanation was going nowhere, so I blew her off because I don't really need the additional speed and don't want to be bothered with reconfiguring my system and changing my email again, but it got me to thinking. Are they totally blowing smoke? Obviously you could hook up a cable modem side by side with dial up, but is there a realistic way to do it side by side with DSL?
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

Well, since you aren't going to be online with both at the same time, you could just unplug the DSL cat 5 cable from your nic, and plug in the cable one..if you have XP..there you go..comparisons would be easy..if you have an older OS, you may have to run ipconfig in between
