Microstar 5129 motherboard
I am using a MMX 166 processor (fairly outdated) on a MS5129 motherboard. I have been trying to install a 40 gig hard disk but my system does not recognise it.
Is there an easy way for this system to recognise the 40 gig HDD. The auto config on the IDD in setup does not work. Thanks. Zach

Welcome to windrivers zigman. Aside from making sure you have the most recent bios (WI7C - 1/28/97), if the bios doesn't support a drive that large the easiest solution is to purchase an add-in ide controller card. Drive overlay software is usually asking for trouble.
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

Even the latest BIOS update
will not support directly that 40 gig drive.
You need PCI IDE controller (which costs too much considering how much cost your an old MB)...
The best way would be to use BIOS Patcher
( http://www.rom.by/english.html ).
I have succsessfully used this Patcher for almost all my home motherboards... Last non-beta version is http://rom.by/Award/patcher/bp-4_23.rar
But it is bit risky, if you never flashed BIOS before...
I had been able to install an AMD K6-2-400Mhz on that MB long time ago, but BIOS should be corrected before for that...
