resetting defaults?
I received a computer that is password protected from work. I was told it needed to be reset before I could access windows. My question is: How do I reset the computer to get to windows?
The computer boots fine but asks for a password to access windows. It's an IBM Thinkcentre model 8148b2u. Windows XP Pro with celeron processor. IBM motherboard.
I have reset bios and still get the password window when booting. Is this a hard drive issue? If so; How do I fix it? Do I need to flash the hard drive? If so; How do I do it? I would like to keep XP Pro in the computer if possible but it's not a necessity.

If you received it from work, and it's password protected, just ask them for the password.
If that doesn't work, contact IBM directly, they will be able to help you.

I did that but it was an older computer and the user is no longer there. It's one reason they gave it to me. I will check with IBM to see about resetting it to original configuration. I just thought I could get a quick answer here. Thanks anyway. I will check later to see if there are any other possibilities.

Intel Mod
Welcome to WinDrivers, ledfoot.
I trust you'll understand that if someone here did have insider information that would gain access to the laptop without intervention from IBM, they could not responsibly provide it, as the next person to use it could be a thief who has stolen your laptop and wants to bypass your password protection.
