    I am now the boss!

Yes - I just got a major promotion. I went from the "low guy" on the totem pole and I was just made IT Department Head.

Very excited and a little bit nervous about all the new work coming on. I'm going to have to move away from the tech side and more into the management side of it all.

Oh, and not to mention I was promoted over the rest of the IT staff, some of whom have been here between 4 to 22 years. (Some are less-than-thrilled, obviously)

Hey - upper management told me where I was going - I didn't have much say in it! (oh yeah, and the fatty raise was nice too)

Congrats Drew- watch your back! j/k
Anyway, if they felt you were the right guy for the job and you did it on your own merit the more power to you.

Kick back, relax. You're a manager now

Do you have a secretary now? if so, is she hot?

    Good Luck in the job

First order of business should be to equip all the office hotties with mandatory webcams. You could post up the pictures on Friday!

    Workforce efficiency monitoring, blah, blah

You wouldn't want to know me, somehow.

Congrats! Now go be as nice to your employees as you wanted former management to be nice to you.

    Good for you!

On my first "official" IT job, I was put in place as netadmin, in charge of a crew of 3 level 1 techs.

Needless to say, the hostility was palpable from the more experienced staff.

Tip: let them know quickly that you can't make it without their help, their experience and that you're there to make their jobs easier. Worked for me.

At least you can enforce that rule now
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

No secretary for me. I'm my own secretary - minus the implants.

Just LOADS more paperwork and more executives breathing down my neck.

I am soooo above fixing paperjams now.

That's what you think now, but physical labour is always a possibility.

So, you going to start wearing your hair pointing straight up above your ears now and using "leveraging synergies" and "proactively engineernig low-risk high-yield sources and assertively customize timely paradigms"?
