    Sound disfunction

    I have recently reinstalled my OS (Win XP). Everything seems to be working fine except I am getting no sound at all. I have SiS 962 chipset, and I have tried to reinstall the driver (both the latest one and the older one) several times now. Under device manager, it appears to be working fine, and also under the Multimedia section, it is selected as the sound playback device. Somebody please help! I am running Sotec Winbook WV2150C. Thanks

    Welcome to Windrivers Vacant Eyes

    Do you have a pair to try?
    Have you checked the volume controls are up and playback is not muted for wav?

    How about a music cd, can you hear that?

    I have checked the volume controls several times. Haven't checked the music cd though. I'll see how it works and post it here.
    thanks

    P.S I uninstalled all the devices under sound / video in the device manager in the safe mode, and tried to make XP recognize everything again. Originally, I had Audio codecs, Legacy audio drivers, Legacy video drivers, media controll devices, video codecs, modem sound device, and SiS7012. But now, all I see there is SiS and the modem sound thing. How would I fix this?

    oh dear, you deleted your codecs. Confus-ed and I tried to help another person fix this problem and couldn't find a sensible way of reinstalling the native xp codecs.

    The poster ended up reinstalling.....

    Problem finally solved!!!!!! I unintalled SiS 7012 sound drivers, and installed a driver by Avance Logic. It solved all my problem. The sound on my computer works wonderfully now. Thanks for all your help I really appreciate it.
    The driver can be found here.

    Thumbs up What to do

    If you want to re-install the codecs that came with Windows XP:

    Go to Control Panel->Add Hardware

    Click Next and let the search continue. -> "Yes, I have already connected the hardware."

    A list of installed harware will appear. At the very end of this list, you'll find "Add new hardware device"->Select then next.

    Serach for hardware automatically, the codecs should appear after a while.

    That's it
