Two things come to mind:
1) There may be a jumper or DIP-switch you have to set to allow BIOS update.
2) You may need a certain version of AMI's flashing program.
When all else fails.....FDISK!

I don't see anything in the manual indicating a jumper controlling bios updates. You could try resetting the cmos (see page 12 of the manual).
It is also possible that your board is too old to support flashing. Older boards came with bios installed on replacable chips. If you needed to update the bios, you had to replace the chip.
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

What do you mean the bios won't support 7200 rpm drives?
That is wrong! A bios does not know how fast a hard drive spins, nor does it care, it only cares about
how large it is, or if it is recognizable. So, what do you mean?
