Identify ac97 sound utility
ECS, yes ECS has this little golden nugget.
codec checker This will tell you what ac97 codec you have
Give it a test drive and see if it works for you.
If it works for people and identifies your ac97 codec correctly, I will make a sticky out of it.

Hey NooNoo
I tried it out on 10 different boards, some with onboard sound and some with PCI cards, also 2 others with ISA sound cards, the program id them all as being RealTec Chips.
When only 3 actually were realtec’s chips. Things that make you go Huuuuummmmm.

Worked for me too, I have a REALTEK also.
I fail to see though, the significance of telling me that since I know that already, is it for ppl who dont know this or who have a sound card but dont know which?

if you only knew you had ac97 sound, but didn't know which one from the dozen or so around, then it would make it alot easier to run that than having to find out the motherboard, look up the board specs then find the driver for it.

Same here - the utility reports RealTek, but I've got soundMAX on-board sound.
Shame - that would have been a cool little utility!
