Trying to installxp on a new drive and getting error
Ok, my hard drive crasehd so i went out and bought a new one... At first i tried to format the drive from the cd-rom but was getting a dick boot read error, it wasnt finding the cd. So i made some flopies to boot the formating program from. I formated the drive and re started my computer to install xp. I went into the BIOS and made my CR-Rom the first boot device and saved the settings. After it restarted and came to boot from the cd i got an error..."NTLDR is missing, press ctlr+alt+del to restart"
Whats causing this...how do i fix it?

When the computer is booting do you get this message,
Press any key to boot from the CD
When you see this message press any key such as the Enter key immediately, otherwise it will try booting from the hard drive and likely get the NTLDR error again."

Get a Win98SE boot disk.
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
Reset bios to boot from floppy. Then from the "A" prompt type C:/ and see if it finds your hard drive. If it does then type D:/ which should be your cdrom and see if it finds it.
Then post the results.

ok, i made the boot disc and put it in the computer. While it was booting i got a message that said "Drive C did not contain a valid fat or fat32 partition run fdisk from command prompt"
I ran fdisk and tried to create a dos partition with cd-rom support and got a message saying no space to make the drive

If you got a disk read error when booting from cd you have one of two problems - the cdrive is faulty or misconfigured or the cd disk is scratched.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

I fixed the problem...I installed my HD in a computer at work and unpluged the HD that was in the computer, i booted the cd and it worked. After I had windows loaded i pulled my hd out and put it in my computer. When windows loaded it detected the cdrom but when i would put a cd in it the drive wasnt reading the cd. I guess when my power supply went out it damaged both of my cd-roms and my HD. I got a new cd rom and everything worked fine.
Thanks for the help eboyjones and noonoo!!! It is greatly appreciated!!
