    Memory brands

What are some suggestions on a good brand of memory? Does it really make a huge difference?

Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

Unless you're planning to overclock, Crucial Memory ONLY. 'Nuff said.

    http://www.crucial.com/

I have always found their prices to be very competitive.

    I like Corsair.

Using 2x256Mb sticks of PC3200 on my A7N8X-DX since last February and they rule. Excellent for overclocking too.

You might also check out http://www.pricewatch.com/ for prices, sources, etc.

We use them quite a bit.

Does 2x256 mean that you get two sticks of 256MB RAM instead of one stick of 512MB, what's the difference?
And also, how do you overclock your RAM and are there disadvantages?

I use corsair and its been great. All I can say is you get what you pay for. Better memory means a more stable system.

2x256 does mean 2 sticks of 256 that equal 512.

You can overclock you memory in the bios.
Im not an expert at this but has to do with your memory timings...

    cas latency
    ect..

Newer boards are capable of running matched pairs of ram in dual channel mode. This doubles the effective speed of your memory. You don't get the benefit with a single stick.
