Dv digitial vid cam no longer connects

    Hi!

I use a digital video camera, which connects to my pc via dv. And I use pinacle 8, it worked for about a year, and 2 weeks after i upgraded my video card it wouldnt connect, nothing would happen... And it said the 1334 port, had an error, i fixed this by allowing it more access, but it still wont work! ahhh help!

Where did the firewire card come from?

Have you got sp1 for xp? Windows updates all in place?

ok, when you plug your camera in to the computer what is the shape of the socket on the computer? is it a rectangle with one side rounded?

carrot dude, have you been able to try the camera on another system, or something else on your Firewire connection to establish whether the problem lies with the computer, the camera or both?

I ask this due to the number of DV cameras we see at the repair shop where I work, with the Firewire chips blown. Despite being "hot-swappable", Firewire & USB connections can still be blown if the connection is made to the computer whilst the camera is being powered from a mains adaptor/charger.

Specifically rectangle with one on the short sides rounded

Or is it just a rectangle... if it's just a rectangle you are using usb and NOT dv.
