Hi,
I'm unsure how Tracert will help, because I can ping url's no problem from a command prompt which means that the connection is working ok?
Anyhow, for more information Windows Update can't access the internet either.
I'm suspecting that this is a registry problem but I really don't know where to start.
Cheers

Agreed, but at least a tracert on the fqdn and then the IP will let you see where it is failing (or not failing as the case may be).
If it gets through no prob then it has got to be spyware surely?

Hi,
I carried out a tracert on www.google.co.uk with no problems. However I have just been informed that this internet connection problem occurred only after the customer did a repair install on windows xp.
I have also just carried out an sfc which hasn't helped.
Cheers

Hi NooNoo,
I downloaded and ran the lsp tool, but when I run it there isn't anything listed in the Remove window. If I click finish it gives the summary but there hasn't been anything repaired. In the keep window I have the following:
mswsock.dll
winrnr.dll
Thanks
Paul

NooNoo, I can't download the Winsock fix from the link you supplied. Looks like you need a proxy account to be able to download it.
Cheers
