Sony DV works on one PC but not the other?
I have 2 PC's with the same firewire card ADS Tech Pyro PCI 64, XP operating system but different Motherboard & CPU.
On one PC the Sony DV connents via the firewire and all is Ok....see complete registry info below.
The main differences between this and the PC that doesn't work is these lines
"DeviceDesc"="61883 Class Bus Device"
"Capabilities"=dword:000000b4
"ClassGUID"="{7EBEFBC0-3200-11D2-B4C2-00A0C9697D07}"
"Class"="61883"
"Mfg"="Microsoft"
"Service"="61883"
"ConfigFlags"=dword:00000000
"Driver"="{7EBEFBC0-3200-11D2-B4C2-00A0C9697D07}\\0001"
"ActiveService"="61883"
On the other PC the Sony DV is recognised but the software ( think it is 61883 class bus device) can't be found/installed... see the registry info below
Can anyone tell me what is going on here. I have searched the web and have seen that other people have trouble with Sony DV connecting via firewire.
Is one solution to manuallly modify the registry ( I have not done this before) or are there any other ideas?

Welcome to Windrivers Walter
You may have an inconsistent gap count!
patch and details here
What is happening is that it gets half way through installing the dv camera and then doesn't know what to do next... so you end up with a 61883 device which is exactly what a dv camcorder connection is in boffin speak. Windows just doesn't know which one.
this thread also has a bunch of suggestions

My PC wasn't detecting my video camera through the Firewaire. I ran the patch link thing you posted and the PC found the camera. Cheers

Same problem
Hi, I am having the same problem. I just got a brand new HP running Vista. I am a golf instructor and have been using a samsung video camera on my old dell. I transferred all of my software onto my new laptop and i am getting "this device could not start: Code 10" and the device manager says 61883 class bus device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same "61883 Class Bus Device" issue on Vista. Do you know of a patch for it?
I've installed the codec from the Samsung site but it hasn't achieved anything as far as I can tell.

Hiya:
The previous 'answered' post dealt with XP.
As the last 2 deal with Vista (an operating system that has had many 'old' O/S driver problems), it would be better to start a new thread in that regard.
It may be that your equipment just isn't compatible with Vista anymore - but dealing with the O/S and equipment in a direct thread makes the most sense.
I think!

Welcome to Windrivers Goonerbloke
This is a problem with the firewire chip you are using as Kalderink will confirm
You can read his thread here
What computer are you using - was the firewire supplied with it?

Thanks for replying.
I have an Advent 5401 laptop with a pre installed firewire port. My digi cam is the Samsung VP-D371W. I will pursue the issue in your recommended thread...

First off, Advent have very little support - I am guessing you bought this through PCWorld or a Supermarket. This page has some good info, so I suggest you bookmark it.
A little more digging shows that this is an equivalent model to the ECS S20 II1 shown here
Can you confirm that the Advent looks the same as this?
Frustratingly I can find nothing about the firewire chip it uses (other than firewire is there). In device manager you should have an ohci ieee 1394 section. Can you click the plug by that and post exactly what is there please?
Is the laptop still in warranty?
What operating system are you using?

In device manager it says "Texas Instruments OHCI compliant IEEE1394 Host Controller", under the bus controller section.
When I plug in the digicam another IEEE device appears at the top with an exclamation sign. Its this part that I have the issue with, I cannot update the driver.
I use Vista 32bit on my laptop. The digicam works fine on my XP PC but its not convenient for me to use it now. Convenience was the main reason for buying the laptop in the first place.

It's not working with a real TI? That's unusual. What is the error message in the 2nd ieee device and what is the model in that 2nd ieee device?
If it were any other company I would say you need a bios update to sort out the firewire problem... but Advent are not big on those... Have you installed the chipset driver?
