    Post Award BIOS problems

    Greetings all,
I have a home built system with an Award BIOS on board. It also has an AT keyboard connector. When I turn the system on, I get no video, and no beeps. I have a post code displayer. It is giving me a code 5, which is:

5 Blank video, Initialize keyboard Keyboard controller initialization

According to the Award web site.

What can I do about this? I have tried several different keyboards, but get the same code everytime.

Did this just start happening, or did you just upgrade your video card?

actually, the CD-ROM stopped working. I took the cover off and unplugged the CD, then the system stopped booting.

The video card is the original one. Nothing has changed on this system.

upon closer inspection, the post code reader gives a different post on each power up.

Anyway, there is no video. The drives spool up normally (it sounds like). I have tried a different video card with no luck.

What else should l check? I have tried a different power supply.

Not sure what motherboard manufacturer. I did try a ISA video card, but still am getting no video. Pretty strange. I thought maybe i would at least get a beep or something that I could go on...

About MoBo manufacturer - is there any numbers, letters, and so on printed on board?

It can be erased (or damaged) BIOS chip (especially if keyboard lights stays ON all the time) as well as bad voltage regulator on motherboard. In last case it could be bad transistor or regulator's controller IC.

Erased BIOS chip can be reflashed back using another (not exactly as original) motherboard with well-known hot-swap.

By the way, did You try another power supply?
