    Question XBOX of PlayStation 2?

Since Burnout 3 has come out, ive been thinking about getting one of these 2 systems.

What would you get? Ive heard that XBOX has some issues with Multiplayer? IS this true?

Don't know about any issues with XBox, but I do know that their implementation is quite polished.

I picked the PS2 simply for compatibility with my existing games and the available titles for that platform are better suited for what me and the kids want.

But I wouldn't spit on the XBox either.

I would get EA to get off their butt and release the game to PC. The Xbox uses a GF2 card so you can only imagine how antiquated the entire thing is. The PC still remains to be the ultimate gaming platform. Its just that companies have gotten lazy and have retreated to the safety of the console forgetting they would'nt even be if it weren't for the PC.

I gotta say I havent been too impressed with the way EA has handled their racing game series in the last couple of years.

The last real good Need For Speed release that I enjoyed was Porche Unleashed.

I tried Underground and wasnt impressed.
Tried Hot Pursuit 2 and wasnt impressed.

Now they come out with what looks like a real cool arcade type racing game where the part of the object is to cause a really big wreck and lots of explosions, car parts flying all over the place, fun stuff I tell ya... and they leave the PC out?!? Damnit!

Not Happy at all with EA Games. Not one bit...

The day they start having competitons for gaming where the fist place prize is $400,000 for a console, I'll consider one. That conept is only available for PC at this time. But there are still more games for PC than console. The fight is to keep it that way.

And you want a great game, try Mercedes Benz World Racing. Now that they have provided an online frontend, been a total blast racing with the buds. Blows UG away, 118 tracks, and around 40 cars have been added to the game that came with I'm not sure how many. And World Racing 2 looks like its totally going to be cool.

You can find a lot of info on MBWR at www.needforbetterspeed.net

And we are visited over there regularly by one of the TDK reps.

Um, ok, how often does a console come out? Every 4 years or more? How much stuff are you buying for your computer every year just to stay up to date?

Honestly, I got better things for my money like smokes, beer and hookers then constantly updating a machine that is mostly used to surf for porn. I'll take the console a year or so after release when the price has dropped by half, and keep it for at least 4 years.

But on my computer as well as playing very cool games. I do programming, create and edit artwork, do video editing, have a 128 track studio, do spreadsheets, compose letters, email, etc. I roll over a computer every two years, I always have two. My slower computer gets sold off and my cost for a new one is compensated by doing so. I set out a budget and shop until I get the computer components I want for the price I wish to pay. I spend maybe an hour putting it together, install the OS and away I go. And I haven't put a single cent into my main machine since I put it together 18 months ago. As I too have no desire to be bleeding edge, just somewhere close.

I don't care for porn, I don't drink beer, and I have no need for hookers as my wife keeps me quite happy there.

And wait unti you see the price of the PS3 and Xbox2. MS won't be willing to sell its 2nd gen console for below cost, even a few years in. But that will be a wait and see, and maybe I'll be wrong.

    To each their own...

Actually, you should really get your facts straight before attempting to comment on hardware.

The Xbox uses an nVidia gpu, that is true. However, it uses an NV2A core which lands somewhere between the Geforce 3 (NV20) and GeForce 4 (NV25)

    More info available here http://www.digit-life.com/articles/nv20/

I do agree that the PC is the superior gaming platform, but even though I hate to, I have to take up (somewhat) for the xbox and its hardware

Here is a direct quote from the project manager of hte Xbox

"We're working with Nvidia to develop a graphics chip which is a step beyond the NV20, it's called the NV2A. In early design discussions, we did loosely refer to it as an 'NV25', but decided to change it to NV2A to avoid, not incite confusion. it's a custom chip which is designed especially for the Xbox and some very specific requirements for the console that makes it a non-candidate for a pc card and will be faster than the NV20."

my vote is for xbox. I have both an xbox and PS2..but i have had alot more fun with the xbox.

i have not heard of any multiplayer issues with burnout 3..but i havent attemted to play any multiplayer with it yet.

generally speaking..in comparing the two systems..the xbox versions of the games will look better, run smoother, and usually have more features...it only makes sense to get the xbox version

also, the burnout 3 soundtrack is really lame...if you get the ps2 version, you are stuck with it..or no music at all. with the xbox version, you can rip your own music to the hard drive, and create custom soundtracks...burnout 3 supports these.

plus, with the xbox, it most games support dolby digital audio, where with ps2, you only get pro logic II.

PS2 has alot more games..but they are really starting to look dated. and there are lots of great xbox games on the horizon...among them..Halo 2.

plus alot of features not available on ps2:

    built in ethernet
    built in hard drive
    4 controller ports
    in game dolby digital
    custom soundtracks
xbox live - universal buddy list, and Downloadable Content
    more powerful hardware than PS2
analog triggers on the controllers, which are much better for racing games

i still reccomend an xbox..but if you do end up going with the PS2, they are getting ready to launch a redesigned smaller version, that has a modem and ethernet adapter built in.
