Wireless card problems
Hi,
Just today i brought a BT Voyager 2100 Wireless ADSL modem router with...
1x Voyager 1040 PCI card for desktops
1x Voyager 1060 PC card for laptops
Hook up the laptop card turn it on, perfect works fine..
Then comes the PCI, i installed the disk fitted the card into the PCI slot (i only have 1 free) turn on the computer... and nothing, windows didn't detect it so i went out and brought a belkin 802.11g Wireless Desktop Network Card and got the exact same problem.
Is it faultly PCI Slot, if so what can i do?
Thanks.

Try another PCI-based piece of hardware in that slot and see if it works. Alternately, try those wireless cards in a PCI slot that you know works.
Another suggestion: install the drivers from the CD that came with the card first, then put the card in.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.
Well, i don't have another PCI peice of hardware so i can't do that
As for taking out the one of the other 2 i was told the computer wouldn't function properly if i took one of those out because they have needed things.
Finally, i installed the driver before the device, but i get the error
This Device cannot start. (code 10)

Geezer
Code 10 in this context means no resources free so the driver can't start, earlier you were advised to try your card in another slot, this message confirms this 'need' ... Techies call this 'slot shuffle', its not uncommon to 'need' to do this
When your machine starts up it does a 'sum' based on what resources it has & what IRQs & memory ranges they can have or use, based partially on their physical position in certain slots. In other words each slot has a range of resources it can use & each slots range is different, moving pci devices about will or should allow all these to work together correctly, you want drivers handy for any devices you need to move, though very often windows will detect & install drivers itself especially if it already had drivers (but not always).
There are other approaches but this honestly is best/simplest ..
