a few weeks ago, one of the users here at work asked me to burn him a copy of office. After telling him severl times that I cannot and will not do this, i burnt him a copy of OpenOffice.org. a few days ago he said it didnt work and gave him an error (which he conveniently forgot to write down), so today at lunch time, he brought me his PC....i couldnt beleive what i was seeing.

40mb ram
528mb hard drive
running windowd 95B

I went to openoffice.org website and found that the version he was using isnt supported under 95. i tried to uninstall, but it wont let me (keps telling me files are missing)..so after a few attempts, i delete the damn directory. ran the DCOM update (which will fix the error he was receiving, and now i am installing openoffice 1.0.3 which supports win95. hopefully this works...it is just sad that he is still running this PC

Have you thought about loading up an older Linix distro on it instead?

lol, well, it did work, everything is ok now (other than that pesky entry in the add/remove programs for that other install of OOo that i couldnt uninstall. but for someone still using that machine, i cant imagine that it will bother him.

i really hate working on user's computers. at least here at work i have controll over their machines, on what gets installed and crap like that. it is a controlled environment...if he wouldnt have carried it almost a block from the parkinglot, and up two flights of stairs, i would have told him no...but it was an old IBM and very heavy. i figured i should at least try

got microshaft works ver 1 on floppies somewhere ,,,he can prob load them with that 5.25 drive ,,

Now your problem will be that he is going to tell everyone in the company what great work you do. Monday you wil show up and ten more people will have dropped off their home computers on your desk. I suggest you change your name and relocate to another city far away.
