To celebrate my 1st Millennium post

Well this is post 1000, so I thought I would share a bang your head against the wall story from this morning....

Laptop user comes into the office (customers office, not mine) today and there are complaints about when this laptop is connected then the 2003 Server crashes....

So investigation into the issue reveals the server is fine, however when the laptop is on the network the internet is slowwwwww. Her Internet wouldn't work and there were issues with this and that.... so ran Spyware/Hijack This/Virus scan and it was reeking of Trojans/Backdoor Diallers and Netsky....

McAfee Virus software was installed.... so for a laptop that is connected on a LAN with a firewall/virus software on server and virus scanning at the ISP, I wanted to know how it became a cesspit of a hackers dream....

Turns out this rather intelligent user had decided to connect her work laptop to BT Broadband at Home, in doing so she had a permanent connection onto the internet, leaving her laptop on "Because its running a website..." without any firewall at home.

Bemused I asked how she thought her XP Professional laptop was acting as a web server.... yep you guessed it, she uploads to a website using FTP (translation into user speak - running a website). Then I said about the firewall situation, "Yes, but we have a firewall at work" Me - "errr yeah but your laptop is connected at home", "Yes, but why isn't the work firewall protecting me?"

    Head Bang against wall.

Here's to another 1000 posts and the continued stupidity of users!
    I love you all....

So I guess it would be more accurate to say "Stupidity pays" and "Private First Class" then.

God bless the users' pointy little heads, without whom we would be a home doing this for free.
I didn't surrender, but they took my horse and made him surrender. They have him pulling a wagon up in Kansas I bet.

Ok. Someone clue the noob in. What is LART? And what is PICNIC-itis?

I mean I'm old and just grasped "rtfm", and "stfu". But the I've never been exposed to the others. Are these outside the US sayings? One came from the tea drinking country, and the other came from "AdeptLand". I guess I just need an expanation.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, although I am probably older, I guess I'm a little smarter also, because I got you to do the searching for me.

    Thanks for the info..
