    Unhappy modem installation problems

    Hi
I have a internal software modem. It is detected by my win 98 P166 system and installs drivers, but then when i try to use it i get a message saying not detecting modem, please turn on and off again. Someone told me briefly that the computer need to load a couple of sets of drivers, and has done this in the wrong order. I have also tried usung the driver installation disk that came with the modem, and assumed this would load them in the correct order, but it appears not.
Is there anyone who can give me a hand installing the drivers in the correct order. Thanks.

    That's what I would do:

    1. Boot into Safe Mode and remove the modem driver and software.
    2. Reboot into Normal Mode and let Windows detect it.
    3. Insert the disk with the driver and give the path to it when prompted.
    4. Check if the modem responds and then
    5. Delete any dialup connections and create a new one.

If the problem still occurs, reply here for further instructions.

    Good luck!

Try removing it in Safe Mode as described ,restart , and disable COMM 2 in the BIOS settings , then let Windows boot up and when it finds the modem , install the drivers.

Most newer winmodems require a P200 or more with MMX. Check the system requirements on the box.

It could be it, also. As Em said, the CPU is a Pentium 166.
