Be a little more specific please, in your PM you mentioned original factory settings. What is it exactly that you are trying to do?

A simple reboot is just holding down the power button long enough for it to turn off, or if all else fails pull the power cord. SOmething tells me you are wanting more though.

Click the Start Button and move the curson over "shut down". New window appears, choose "shut down" and click "OK".
Unless, as cleetus suspects, there is more to this.
    Hey Cleetus: cool. ;-)

in reboot do you mean to reload windows. if that is the case. back up all files you want to keep to disk or cd or something. and then put the system restore disk in the cdrom drive. and then restart the computer and follow the one screen instructions.

Please elaborate on what you are trying to do?

    reboot = ?
    • reload
    • reinstall O/S
    • System Restore
    • Restart
    • From a batch file (ex. SHUTDOWN -r -t 01)

    Emachine re install

The solution to this issue is to disconnect the DVD rom from the machine.
    1. Remove the ribbon cable going into the back DVD drive
    2. Remove the ribbon cable going into the back of the CD drive
    3. Plug the end of the ribbon cable that was previously in the DVD drive into the CD.

Check the bios for the boot order if it won't boot from the CD.

    Off you go!

i do believe there is a hidden partition on the emachines all models, press f12 i think on the post screen where it says emachines in large letters and run the complete reinstall from there if there is still an issue if you have a floppy drive save the ghosterr.txt file on to a floppy and if possible open on another machine you might find the reason why there is an error
