DVD Creating
I just got a DVD writer, but it's OEM. So what software would you suggest for creating and burning DVDs?
I primarily want to burn home movies to DVD, but I would also do some file archiving.
Thanks

how are you transferring the video? analog with capture card or digital via firewire?
for basic capture editing and burning, I really like the whole nero ultra suite which includes nero vision express which is really easy to use and walks you from start to finish (capture, edit, encode, author, burn)
I also fiddle a bit with Ulead media studio pro which is pretty nice as well.

Geezer
Can I just get clear whether we are talking about 'authoring' any of these DVD's please, or whether we just mean 'backup' .. ?

Firewire download.
I'm looking to author DVD movies.
(Capture, edit, compose those DVD "menus", cut to DVD"
I've heard good things about the NERO suite before. I'll have to see if they have a demo available.

they do. download everything in the suite (you don't need incd to author burn etc, but if you want to be able to use your DVD-RW like a floppy you should get it too)

DVD authering
Just a note... If you want the DVD's to play in a stand alone unit, get the best blank DVD's you can. Have some experiance here and there is a world of differance between brands. Also if you want to make money doing this use a better program such as Adobe Premiere Pro. Straight from capture to edit to author in one program, all with Professsional results. Nero works well but is dumbed down. Also with Nero be sure to install the Mpeg 2 encoder, curiously it does not install on it's own, you have to install it from the disk yourself.

I downloaded the Nero demo and I think I'm liking it. It does what I need.
I'm not looking for anything professional, just something to edit my home videos and put them to DVD.

Ah a happy camper then ?
Anyone know of FREE stuff for this ? - even if its a bit less elegant than Nero, not everyone can lash that cash .. (though many folks get this bundled etc)
