    Windows wont detect drive...

    I'm pretty sure its a bug cause on my last comp I had to download a patch and it fixed it I just can't find the patch.

    Maybe a BIOS upgrade? We need more info such as the hard drive make and model, OS, Motherboard?

    Not sure what you mean by a "patch" to make your OS detect a drive. Any OS natively supports IDE drives w/o a "patch". So, either your CD/DVD doesn't work, or I am confused by what you mean. Is this an internal drive?

    Might be a jumper setting as well. I hate to overlook the little things.

    Make sure "pin 1" on the data cable matches on both the mobo side and the CD-Rom drive side.

    It's an internal Sony- DRU710A and im running windows XP. The slave is a LG it's detecting it fine, and the patch or bug fix or somthing was either from windows or hp it was some kind of bug that kept the comp from detecing the drive.............not sure exactly.

    about the only bug you would have is if you had set the jumpers wrong.


    does the bios screen see the device ,,,,you say u had this problemon your old computer? ,,,

    have you just installed this now?


    does your bios see it?

    Yep the sony drive needs to be set as the master use the jumper on the back of the drive and it should have a diagram on top to tell you how to set it.

    Checked the jumper it's set correctly and yes i just installed it.

    No bios wasn't detecting so i changed the cable works fine I guess it was a faulty cable.

    I know that at one point I too downloaded this patch and now I need it again and I can't find it! HELP! I installed Windows XP on my mother's computer and everything is peachy except the fact that the cdr drive will not burn. It does not find the blank disk. HELP!!!!
