    Welcome to Windrivers Rock316

If you are trying to run 2k3 as a standalone desktop OS you are going to have lots of little problems like this. 2k3 is designed to be a server so most desktop type services are turned off.

Gifs also don't work with certain applications installed (whichever OS you are using) Norton firewall being one of them.

Please post more details about your level of knowledge of server OS's and what is the intended use as well as what other apps you have installed.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

You should purchase a licence for Windows 2000 pro [ for use on a stand alone machine]if that is the OS that you wish to install but as you were having problems with XP it sounds like you have system problems which may surface again.

Maybe you didn't get all your drivers installed, if it was only 10 minutes.

You should give XP another chance. Make sure you get all your drivers installed, especially the ones for your motherboard/chipset/etc. Maybe you need a 3rd party driver?

You really should use a desktop operating system for your desktop needs. Win2K3 can be more secure, but it's meant to do SO much more than perform as your desktop.
