Virus in monitor?

So, I get a call from the bosses' wife...virus on the home PC through IM; hasn't updated Norton or WinXP since July, when another tech built the system. I head over, start going through the removal process; they have to leave. So, I tell the boss (retired General, PhD, you name it) I'll just take the box with me, finish it later, and bring it back.

Aside from the fact they thought one initial install of AV was good forever, his next question to me was:

"Don't you need to take the monitor too, in case the virus spread that far??"

With a large amount of effort, I kept a straight face, packed up the box, and went home.

Ok...Thats a whole hell of a lot better than I would have done...

I'd have said, "No, it'll be fine as these sort of things only download. Just to be safe I'd better take everything down from the base unit"

Then leave with the base, keyb mouse and chair.... these people always have nice chairs
