    This is looking suspiciously like my Sims 2- Nvidia 5900XT problem isnt it NooNoo?

    Had similar problem, same card, xp pro, with DirectX Diagnostics and running PinBall full screen. Was running folding@home, protein folding distributed computing program, in background; stopping this cured problem immediately - no reboot required.
