    Mouse and keyboard not working

    Hi,

I am using Windows Home XP. My mouse and keyboard has stopped working all of sudden. Previously, my mouse was acting weird, quickly moving around and opening up programs at some times. I thought it was the wheel stuck in the mouse. Originally, I believed that this problem was due to low memory but after reading up these topics. I believe this could be a hardware problem. I cannot do anything because when the welcome screen comes on the keyboard and mouse don't work. I've tried shutting it down and unplugged both of the devices from the USB. It didn't work. Please help!

    Thanks!

    Welcome to WD Forums hLc.
More details on your mainboard and/or computer make would help. But, if this is a USB problem only, you can try this:
plug the kb and mouse in while you are up and running and see if xp detects them.
Do you have any other USB peripherals you can try? Another mouse?
Does this pc have PS2 connections for a mouse and kb? If so, we need to use these to help you troubleshoot the problem.

On the back of the pc will be two connections most likely color coded green and purple. They are circular and about 3/8 " in diameter. Those will be the PS2 connections.

    EDIT
Here is a pic of a PS2 adapter. These ends go in the ones I describe above:

Then, for now, get a PS2 mouse and kb. Remember, this is just for troubleshooting purposes. Right now, we need to be able to get into windows to check things. We don't know if your USB even works. Even if you must buy them, the cost is negligible. Buy or borrow for now. Then we help solve this problem.
