Advice on webcam setup needed?

Ive been asked by a customer to setup a webcam. His real estate business has a second story balcony that looks down onto our towns main street. As we are a tourist town in the tropics the view can be quite nice during tourist season.

Ive never done this before but have been reading up on it and am thinking about using a software product called Webcam32, from webcam32.com
He has his own site which this software can upload images to via ftp.

Does anyone know anything about this software???

Also what suggestions do you have for the type of camera I should get? It will be outside but under a balcony roof so should be protected from the weather. And will a 512kb adsl connection be fast enough to support video or should we have still images refreshed every 15 seconds or so?

Webcam32 is great! If you're on a broadband connection you can stream the "video" at speeds as good as 4-6 frames per second. If you are on a slower connection you are better off with the timed FTP upload of snapshots.

Great...What about a camera I really need some recomendations for a camera to use.

You could do one of two things...you could buy a webcam, or you can hookup a nice (And much more expensive!) digital camcorder. Both have their advantages...check out this article for more:
