cd shows no files does not rec. disc
When I put a cd into my drive it will not autorun or show any files. I can hear the drive spin up and attempt to read the disc, but it never returns any errors.
If I want to get anything off of the disc i need to go into my computer and right click on the drive and get the properties.
then I go to the hardware tab and seclect the drive from the list then hit properties again. A new window opens up and i click on the volumes tab and then i click populate.
after i populate the disc i am able to read it no problem. but up untill then i cannot read the disc.
Anyone have any ideas how to get this drive back to "normal" ?

Scott:
Have you tried disabling and re-enabling the device. I had a similar problem with a compaq laptop this week end. The drive could read music cd's, dvd's but no data disks, commercial or otherwise. Deleted the device, re-created it but would not work consistently. As a last resort decided to disable and re-enable and began reading without any problem and hasn't stopped working. I think it may sound stupid but its worth a try...
