D-Link G604T port forwarding issues.

Hi, again.

I've tried setting up port forwarding for this router/modem, to improve download speeds on peer-to-peer programs.

But even after this, I seem to get downloads which start off ok, and reach speeds of 15k/sec, (even though im on 512k ADSL!!! surely should be MUCH higher?) then they slowly reduce in speed, until they reach 0k/sec.

Why?

Hi Loopa,

Interested to see your post as I am finding something very similar. I replaced my Fujitsu ADSL model in favour of the D-Link G604T / DWL-G520+ setup to give my kids access to my broadband connection.

While the wireless link works fine, I'm finding that my broadband connection starts well but tails off to nothing. Sometimes I can't get any internet connection and filesharing is very, very slow. The only solution (at times) is to pull the power lead out and reconnect.

Anyone please... any ideas???

Same router, consistent download speeds of 63 on a 512 service. No port forwarding set up. So are you sure it is the router?
More details and I'll look mine over tomorrow and see what gives. I install these on a fairly constant basis and not had this issue which is why I'm posting. The thought of some of those doing this is enough to give me cold sweats.

Yep, you're not alone there either, moments before posting this, I had to restart the router before I could get an internet connection.

As I just said on your 'other one' - this is probably related to your issues trying to update the routers firmware

ok, firmware has been updated. (see other post)

Bittorrent download speeds still havent been resolved though.

I've tried without port forwarding, and now trying with. There seems to be a slight improvement now whilst using port forwarding. Still though, max d/l speed I've seen so far has been 13k/sec.

Any more suggestions?

Go find yourself Azureus (I know its a stinky Java client before you say, but I've found it the best one despite that, its what I use ) & thats got little handy colour indicators for status & also a little test programme in it that'll let you see if its all going right - also reaching your tcp connect limit can cause this issue - what o/s ? if its w2k/xp have a look in your event viewer for symptoms of this.
