Media test failure
HI all,
I am trying to assemble a new pc when I finished I got this error massage during starting up:
For Realtek RTL8110S/8116 (I do not remember the numbers exactly) PCI Fast Ethernet Controller
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
I read the posts on this forum http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?t=61825 so I thought it could be similar to my problem.
I installed xp on the new hard drive (using my old pc)and still get the same error massage. So I tried my hard dive that I am using in my old pc and still get same error massage.
Any help please!

What OS? Do you have it installed, or is this during install?

This error will occur when the PC is trying to perform a network boot, with the media disconnected. You can disable this feature in the bios.
Try this,
In the Bios set the boot to
1st cd rom
2nd HD
Insert your boot cd (XP, 98, etc . . . . )
Restart your computer.

Welcome to Windrivers Forums, Onlyicecream!
As addition for gizmo1_1's post, disable in BIOS "boot from other devices" - it will no longer try to boot from network...

You are right I think. BUT the problem is that I tried to do the changes in the BIOS the BIOS only accept to boot from flopy, the net work or something like that and there are third option (which is active already), other boot device. The third one could be any of the other ones boot device. DO you have any suggestions?
What do u mean by media disconnected?

What do u mean by media disconnected?
Media disconnected means there is not a cable plugged into the network card.
You should be able to set your options to something like this:
1st Boot Device - IDE CD-ROM
2nd Boot Device - Floppy/Removable Storage
3rd Boot Device - IDE0
Try Other Boot Device - No

Thanks for the welcome message!
Then in case I desabled boot from other devices then the only boot device will be flopy, since there is not any other choice that says boot from HDD

Are you hard-drive and cd-rom drives detected?
Make sure that your first boot device is the CD-rom drive.
Second question [quote=onlyicecream]What do u mean by media disconnected?

This indicates that your network cable is not connected to your onboard NIC. This feature is for Booting the mainboad from a network.

Geezer
The media disconnected stuff is a network cable not plugged in (when trying to boot)
You should have a hard disk choice in your bios like so

Does the bios show your HDD in the general bios setup?

[QUOTE=gizmo1_1]Are you hard-drive and cd-rom drives detected?
[\quote]
I do not think that the hard drive and cd-rom are detected. As soon as I finished assebling my new pc I started it and got those error messages. Even the BIOS could not do the I/O check.
How can I let the HDD and CRrom to be detected?

First double check your connections.
Ide Cables (red line(Pin 1) usually goes toward the power)
read the back of the drives and make sure the jumper settings are correct.
Master for Hd and Slave for the CD-ROM
If on seperate cables some drives have a single setting.
Make sure drives are Connected to the power cables securely.
The bios should have an autodetect feature on the standard setup page.

Then in case what you have mentioned have been done properly, that means there is a cable that is not functioning or a damaged part!
