Open to suggestion
My beloved old UltraPlex finally died. (40x 68pin UW SCSI CD-ROM) This drive was freaking awesome. Bloody fast audio ripping, never an error. Now I need a replacement. I'll even consider a good IDE drive. My DVD burner is IDE, so that would eliminate one cable from my case. I can get a refurbed UltraPlex for around $65-$70, but I don't think I would trust a refurb CD-ROM. What do you think?
So, line up with your suggestions.

My opinion?
You had one and loved it so any replacement will never live up to the high standards you now have. Go for the refurb.
There's no panic like the panic you momentarily feel when you've got
your hand or head stuck in something
