I agree, except for the final injection.

Yeah, ever watch "Escape from New York"?
It is too late to fix America via the Republicans or Democrats, and too early to start shooting the bastards.

Lemme throw something in here... Keeping scumbags alive would be worth if 'forced work' would be involved.. like work hard to earn money towards detention costs... and pay at the minimum rate... TV, entertainment, books - extra. Not enough earnings to pay->execution. That would be both punishment and making them do something useful... Otherwise keeping them alive for nothing is a waste of taxpayers' $$$

So, what is the monetary value of a human life?

It wouldn't be keeping them alive for nothing. It's for insurance.

To insure that not one innocent person is ever executed by mistake.

Then an innocent person would work and keep himself/herself alive... no innocent person would like to die when there is hope...

    Well, it's done.

Texas executes killer who cited Metallica lyrics

Wednesday, January 26, 2005 Posted: 9:54 AM EST (1454 GMT)
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- A condemned killer who twice avoided death last year was executed Tuesday night as the Supreme Court refused on a 5-4 vote to block the lethal injection.

Troy Kunkle, 38, spent more than half his life on death row for shooting a man and robbing him of $13 in Corpus Christi.

Kunkle was contrite as he looked toward his victim's daughter and son-in-law.

"I would like to ask you to forgive me," he said. "I made a mistake and I am sorry for what I did. All I can do is ask you to forgive me."

The 1984 shooting gained notoriety with disclosures that Kunkle, from San Antonio and then 18, quoted lyrics of a song by the heavy metal rock group Metallica after 31-year-old Stephen Horton was gunned down.

The execution was the second of the year in Texas, the nation's busiest execution state.

The most recent delay for Kunkle came Nov. 18 when the Supreme Court stopped the execution about 40 minutes after he could have been strapped to the gurney. Tuesday's execution date was his sixth.

Kunkle's lawyers contended in his latest appeals that jurors at his trial were not allowed to properly consider his history of alcohol and drug abuse, plus a family history of mental illness and abuse.

According to testimony at Kunkle's capital murder trial, after shooting Horton in the head Kunkle chanted: "Another day, another death, another sorrow, another breath" -- the refrain from the Metallica song "No Remorse" on the album "Kill 'Em All."
Maybe now, Steve's family and friends can get on with the rest of their lives. I suppose that we could have done that anyway, but keeping this guy around while Steve is long gone just reminds us of the tragedy of the whole ordeal.

God may have already forgiven him for his sins but man has not. He had to pay.

What if that innocent person just can't keep up?

    Execute that person?

Could you live with that on your conscience?

Is executing an innocent person really all that much worse than keeping an innocent person imprisoned for their entire life?

Execution of somebody is FINAL. It can not be undone.

If an innocent person is imprisoned, there is always hope of exoneration.

Look at what you are saying. Is life really that worthless to you?

like he said make them work for their food. Animals like above simple let him eat lead ( bullet ) that's fairly cheap.

Truly these sick vicious animals don't belong in society.

How does it reflect on yourself when you wish death and suffering on others.

Even scumbags like above. How can you hold yourself above these animals when

you advocate using methods similar to what he used in the first place.

We are teaching that killing is a solution to a problem.

This is not what we want to impress into young minds.

Death penalty is about retribution, not a solution

Would you mind giving a less generalized statement?

Do you mean retribution as a bad or good thing?

    Speak for yourself.

Society has deemed it necessary to kill for several reasons. War and protecting one's homeland and security come to mind. And, willfully taking another's life for no other purpose than for fun is another reason that comes to mind.

Taking someone's life, anybody's life, should not be taken lightly. I suppose that is the justification for taking so long to work out all of the appeals, etc. In the end tho, the Death Penaly was justified for this one individual.

That's my opinion. Now, I'm out of it.
