Re-installed XP No sound
Last week I had a problem with NTLDR missing on boot up. For some odd ball reason using the XP Rescue Disk and the ?map? command, I found my OS had shifted to the ?D? drive ? no idea why. No hardware changes had taken place, just a normal boot up.
Unable to resolve this problem using the XP rescue disk, I resorted to a complete re-install.
On final boot-up, I then found XP had installed itself back on the ?D? drive.
I removed all traces of the ?C? paths in the registry and re-installed my software.
(At the time desperate to get up and running again)
Everything is up and running apart from the wrong drive, however until I have more time, I can live with that.
Trouble is now I have NO SOUND.
Giga-byte motherboard GA-7VT600 with AC97 on-board sound has been enabled in the BIOS and the Realtek drivers loaded.
I have loaded Realtex drivers from their web site and from the Gigabyte m/b CD.
In System/Device Manager all the drivers seem to be their working correctly.
However in Control Panel/Sounds/Audio page folder only the "modem" is displayed
No audio sound device.
Also using DXDIAG the Direct Sound device shows only the modem.
Obviously this is the reason for no sound
All the drivers appear to be in situ, working with no conflicts but why
isnt the Realtex driver working?
I seem to recall looking at Properties on one of the drivers and it came up with ?Device not started?
Even if I disable the m/b chip and install a Creative sound card the problem still exists.
I am beginning to wonder if it`s a registry problem
