Post Sony Vaio laptop integrated ethernet?

    i purchased a Sony Vaio PCG-Z505LSK
all the specs state it has "integrated RJ-45 10/100" never stating anything but that. I formatted the primary drive so i could install a different OS on it.
The external cd-rom will not work in dos, despite my best efforts(there is NO documentation on using it in dos), so i was going to use Norton Ghost to copy the contents of another machine in my house to the laptop.
The ethernet adapter can not be detected in dos for some reason, i ran the NE2000 diag.exe and it says no ethernet present. i get a light on my switch when i plug in my laptop...
I tried to use parallel connection with that pc, but the firewire 'port replicator'(which has the laptops parallel port on it) doesnt work in dos either.
So im kinda up a creek without....u know.

    any ideas?
    i really need some help

if you have norton ghost 2001 it wil let you make a set of boot disks to enable the nic in dos so you can copy the info from a network drive
