    dead slave drive part deux!

it's me, back again and just as confused!. i gave up with the other dead hard drive and bought another one off a friend of a friend. another seagate 40gb, second hand and been formatted.
put it in machine, set as slave, went into bios and set to auto detect, found new hdd straight away. so far, so good.
in my computer, properties, device manager, there it is. my 60gb as generic type 47 and my slave 40gb as generic type 80. both "working properly"
SO WHERE IS IT? i can't read from it, i can't write to it, in fact i can't see it at all. in my computer, the c drive is there, the d drive is my dvd-r and the e drive is my cd-r/rw. no second hard drive to be seen.
so what am i doing wrong again? windows 98 se, plenty of power from power pack, rest of pc all hunky dory, just this bit.
    PLEASE HELP!

Did you format your new drive?

Unplug your existing drive to make absolutely sure you don't format the wrong one, and set your new drive as master, then use a bootable floppy to boot the PC.

You may need to run fdisk, (been a while since I installed a drive without sticking an image straight onto it) run this and create a partition, come out of fdisk, reboot using floppy and then format the drive which will now be C:

Once complete, put your drives back as they were and it'll appear in Explorer, probably as an F: drive.
